Genetic Identification

Genetic identification can be useful in many situations. In cases involving missing persons, the possibility of determining their genetic identity constitutes an invaluable asset in the task of trying to locate them or to establish a biological link with different types of evidence. In terms of family inheritances, genetic identification may be used to refute any fraudulent claims filed by third parties. Lastly, even if the motive is pure curiosity, our laboratory will provide a genetic identity report telling you the frequency of your genotypes according to your ethnic origins as well as the frequency of your genetic profile within the population at large.

Please note that our genetic identification service cannot be used as a substitute for family relationship testing or to determine family ancestors.

Our genetic identification service is performed according to the strict standards of the CODIS identification system used in forensic science laboratories. Warnex establishes your genetic profile using 14 genetic markers, including a sex determinant.

The test is performed using samples collected at home. Our laboratory will send you a sampling kit containing all the necessary material for the collection of the samples as well as instructions and consent forms.

Results

Results of the test are obtained within 10 working days following the receipt of the samples at our laboratory. We also offer an accelerated service by which results may be obtained after 3 days. Results are transmitted by mail only to the person who paid for the test, unless indicated otherwise, as specified in the forms submitted with the kit.

The DNA test is performed on a buccal swab sample (saliva). Since every cell of our body contains the same DNA, it is possible to extract each participant’s DNA from collected saliva cells and perform the requested genetic analysis. This simple, painless type of collection procedure yields results that are as reliable as blood sampling results. Moreover, it can be performed as easily on a newborn or child as on an adult.

All participants must complete and sign a consent form. In the case of a minor, the legal guardian must complete and sign the child's consent form. Before performing the test, our laboratory will verify each person's consent by telephone. We do not conduct any tests without the knowledge of the parties concerned.
